Creative Gender Reveals in the Time of COVID
When you’re expecting your child there are so many surprises that come during the journey. About halfway through your pregnancy, you finally get the opportunity to discover one of the biggest – your baby’s sex. For some, this is something they’ve looked forward to since before they conceived. For others, this particular surprise is something they would rather delay until the big day. If you are in the first group, then we have some fun ideas for you as you choose how to announce the newest member of your family.
Gender reveals can be a fun way to include friends and family in your journey towards parenthood.
Imagine the anticipation of getting to find out whether you will be having a baby boy or baby girl. You’ve waited 20 long weeks to find out all while powering your way through morning sickness and the many changes your body goes through (that no one is fully truthful about). Finding out this detail about your unborn child is one step closer to finally meeting them on their birthday.
If you’re not in the camp of waiting for the reveal but want to surprise your loved ones any one of the ideas below is for you, too!
During this time of masks and social distancing, creativity is the name of the game! Whether you’re looking to have an event or a more intimate affair we’ve got you covered. And remember, you make the rules for this event! Don’t want to use the standard pink and blue? Choose your own colors that are special to you and your partner.
Without further ado, here are 7 of our favorites:
- Powder Baseballs: As we approach springtime, hosting an outdoor sports-themed event can be a fun way to include friends and family while still practicing social distancing. Have your guests choose whether they’re for Team Pink or Team Blue then get ready to hit a big fly to reveal if it’s a boy or a girl. We’ve also seen footballs, golf balls, and soccer balls that can work here, too.
- Silly String: Who doesn’t love acting like a kid now and then? Have a trusted friend or family member order the silly string in your gender color of choice. Supply everyone with their own can and on the count of three start spraying. Siblings will especially love this one!
- Colored Blankets: This is another one that can be a fun way to include siblings or grandparents. If you already know, but want to surprise others wrap up a blanket in the color you are using to represent the sex of your baby. Have your children or parents open the box while everyone watches.
- Drive-By Reveal: If you have older children then you are likely well aware of the many birthday parades that have commenced across the country in the last year. Take this idea and give it a makeover! Set your reveal up in your front yard. You can decorate your yard or front porch to let everyone know the baby’s gender. Invite friends and family to drive-by so you can celebrate together while remaining safe and distant.
- Choose an Article of Clothing to Make Your Announcement: Booties, bows, bodysuits – the choices are endless! This is a great idea for sharing your news with loved ones that live further away. Simply choose your baby item (our Beautiful and Handsome bodysuits work wonderfully for this) and ship it directly to them. Make sure to Facetime with them as they open the package!
- Gender Reveal Scratch-Off Cards: This can be a fun way to gather everyone near and far to reveal your baby’s gender. Simply order a stack of gender reveal scratch-off cards – we found plenty of options on Etsy – and send them out to everyone on your guest list. Follow up with a Zoom invite and have everyone scratch off their cards together for the big reveal.
- Face Masks: Why not embrace the times? Order a set of pink or blue masks, package them up in a gift bag, and have your guests open them at the same time.
